Doctrine begins with God's self-revelation, not our appetite for a tidy chart. Read Ezekiel 18:23-32 for its claims, movement, images, tensions, and place within the whole biblical witness.

God calls the wicked to turn and live and denies pleasure in their death. The goal is clarity without pretending that every faithful question has become simple.

Follow the whole witness

One verse can introduce a doctrine, but it rarely carries the full weight alone. Trace the theme through creation, covenant, prophets, the life and teaching of Jesus, the cross and resurrection, the apostolic witness, the church, and the promised renewal of all things.

This is the iron inside the velvet glove. The truth should be strong enough to confront us, but it should not be carried with contempt, ego, or delight in another person's shame.

Reject the distortion, including the useful one

A distortion may feel useful because it gives certainty, protects a tribe, excuses a habit, or creates somebody to look down upon. Test the teaching by Scripture, historic Christian witness, the character of Christ, and the fruit it produces in truth, holiness, justice, mercy, and hope.

Say the belief in plain language, then ask what it changes about worship, money, body, neighbor, suffering, power, hope, and witness. A doctrine kept only as vocabulary has not yet finished its work in the house.
